Can we help with demilitarizing your resume?
Yes, we have employment specialists that have served in the military and understand the multiple skills obtained while serving.
Is there any cost to the veteran or their family member?
No, services provided by the Pierce County VETS staff or their partners are provided at no cost to the veteran's family.
Where can I get assistance?
Pierce County VETS currently does not have a physical location to provide services.  Instead, we utilize the existing infrastructure that is in place through the local veteran service organizations, WorkSource offices and affiliate locations.  We can serve you at any one of these locations that is convenient to you or we can arrange for an alternate location.
How do I get help with my VA Disability Claim?
We have several service organizations throughout Pierce County that have Service Officers available to assist you.  You can find a listing at http://www.piercecountyvets.org/veterans/VSO.aspx.
Am I a veteran?
What can a service officer do for me?
Service Officers are your main point of contact between the Department of Veterans Affairs and yourself.  Your service officer will assist you in putting together a complete claims package to make the process as easy as possible.  They will track the claim throughout the entire process, answer all of your questions and concerns, inform you of the best evidence needed to win your claim, inform you of additional benefits that you may be entitled to, and also, be there to listen to you and provide needed assistance.
How long does the VA Claim process take?
That depends on several factors like:  How many issues there are?  Does the DVA need more evidence?  Examinations may be required by the DVA.  Generally, an Original Claim takes 6-8 months; a claim for Increase takes 3-5 months; a New Claim takes 6-8 months; and a Re-Opened claim takes 4-6 months.
How do I request my military records?
Complete a Standard Form 180 and forward it to:

National Personnel Records Center
(Military Personnel Records)
9700 Page Avenue

Can my stepchildren be added to my compensation award?
Yes!  As long as they are living with you.
Can my spouse get treatment at the VA Medical Center
Yes, if your spouse is also a veteran.  Some VA Medical Centers treat dependents, but most do not.  Check with the local VA Medical Center for additional information.
Do I have to use the VA Medical Center?
